The ancient ritual of transforming an ordinary egg into a 'Pysanka' can be traced as far back as 5000BC. Seen as the embodiment of the renewal of life, they were a source of wonder and magic for primitive people. The egg continues its talismanic powers to this day as a spring tradition, now associated with Easter. It has been passed down from one generation to the next, as it was for Sochor, who learned this beautiful art form from her Ukrainian mother. Designs are drawn on the egg with melted beeswax which flows from a tool called a 'Kystka.'
