Poetic Postcard Project - Macarena Ruiz-Tagle
The Poetic Postcard Project was created by Macarena Ruiz-Tagle, a Chilean visual artist based in Berlin.
The Cyanometer Postcard captures the nuances of sky blueness at a specific moment, allowing senders to document and share this information with the recipient. Its purpose is to connect individuals globally, embracing contemplation of the sky's beauty across different latitudes.
Horace-Bénédict de Saussure, a Swiss Naturalist (1740-1799), is credited with inventing the Cyanometer in 1789 during his expeditions in the Alps. Alexander von Humboldt also employed the Cyanometer during his journey in Latin America (1799-1804).
The project, Share the Sky, is inspired by the cyanometer, an 18th-century instrument designed to measure the intensity of the blue sky. Each postcard invites the viewer to look up, compare the hue of the sky with a numbered scale, note the number and time, and share the moment with someone special. This simple upward glance transforms into a quiet moment of connection and reflection.
In our hectic times, this gesture fosters mindfulness and presence. I believe these postcards can gently complement the atmosphere of your bookshop and enrich the visitor experience with a thoughtful invitation to pause and embrace the present moment.
